Low energy brass diffusion fluidized bed: a new generation for the steelcord production up to 60 wires.

In the process of steelcord, the creation of brass by diffusing copper and zinc by heating is one of the main stages in the plating line. The fluidized bed is largely used in the production of steelcord wires across the world. The system allows the handling of various wire diameters and even various carbon contents simultaneously while in the meantime having a numerous number of strands. The advantage of the system is the easiness of operating the equipment by simply controlling the sand temperature in each zone.

The new generation of fluidized beds integrates heat recovery from the flue gas exhaust to increase the energy efficiency. Making the assessment between the use of induction (what FIB Group is also able to offer) and the fluidized bed technology, the simplicity of use, the flexibility and the overall operating costs have pushed two steelcord plants to re-invest in diffusion fluidized beds. Up to sixty wires may be treated simultaneously in one unit.
